Survivors Around the Globe – Andrew Davie

I was about to take a flight to visit family, when I fell on the jetway. Thankfully, I didn’t board the plane and first responders were able to tend to me before I was taken to the hospital. I had had a ruptured brain aneurysm and subarachnoid hemorrhage. I was in the hospital for about five weeks. During the latter few weeks and the next nine months, I participated in physical and speech therapy. I needed to walk with a cane, had double vision, and abstract thinking was virtually non-existent. Now, a little over three years later, my vision and balance problems are more of a nuisance rather than an obstacle. My abstract thinking has returned and my double vision has healed. The emotional adjustment continues, but I feel much more confident.

To highlight our impact and convey our mission with clarity, we are excited to announce that the Joe Niekro Foundation is now the Niekro Aneurysm and AVM Foundation. We look forward to building on the Niekro legacy and continuing our mission!
