Bridget’s Advice for Caregivers:
“We are all members of a club of which we would never wish to be a part. Each one of our children’s journeys is unique, painful, inspiring and agonizing. When our daughter, Katie’s, AVM aneurysm ruptured in August 2020, our world stood still. My husband Mike, Katie’s sisters, our families and I formed a circle of prayer and love around our precious girl. The unimaginable became our daily existence and we did our best to cope during the darkest of days. I remember each step between the Ronald McDonald House to the pediatric hospital, SickKids, was a literal prayer for our daughter. We were enveloped in a fog of terror but were focused on Katie’s healing. Every slight improvement was met with exhilaration and each setback broke our hearts all over again. It was Katie’s resilience and unbreakable spirit that sustained us through the darkest of days. Katie has made an absolutely incredible recovery. We all take each day at a time and are grateful. I am shy to give any advice or wisdom to other families going through their own journeys. But keeping the faith, taking one day at a time, finding joy in the smallest of victories and having gratitude for the privilege of accompanying your child through the unimaginable were all things that helped to sustain our family.“
